Beautify Bonney Lake, is a city-wide volunteer effort to cleanup and generally improve about thirty sites within the city of Bonney Lake. This year was the 20th consecutive annaul celebration of this event. Approximately 200 volunteers from all over the city got together on the 21st of September 2024. Our Kiwanis Club was assigned the task to improve Bonney Lake Senior Center’s gardens. Here are a couple of snapshots of this event:
2. Bonney Lake Triathon is an annual event that is a regular project for our Kiwanis Club, assisted by Key Club members from Bonney Lake High School,. This year it was held on Saturday, Aug 30. The event was well attended and as usual, it was an inspirational experience. Athletes and volunteers alike came from many miles away, and some were first time triathletes, most of whom turned in a great performance. Well done to all the volunteers and the athletes.
3. Periodically, Bonney Lake High School Key Club joins Bonney Lake Kiwanis Club in sponsoring community used clothing drives. This is a win-win-win program that helps donors to clean out their closets, allows our Kiwanis Club to collect a small payment from another volunteer group that collects huge volumes of used clothing, and the ultimate beneficiaris are the homeless and hungry who depend on clothes donations for their daily wear. This particular drive culminatred in the loading of almost 8,000 pounds of donated clothing into two large vans to be delivered to a regional distribution center. A close observation of this picture will allow the viewer to see some of the hundreds of plastic bags we loaded into the van.
4. SCARE HUNGER!
Several years ago, our sponsored Key Club at Bonney Lake High School met to discuss Haloween. The idea was proposed that they find a way to make this holiday more than just a way for kids to dress up and demand candy from neighbors. Wouldn’t it be fun and worthwhile, they thought then, if we converted Haloween into “SCARE HUNGER?’ Well, that became an instant tradition and 2024 was the fourth celebration. Together, the Key and members of the Bonney Lake Kiwanis brought over 2,000 pounds of donated food to Bonnie Lake’s Foodbank, which is called Good Roots Northwest (Pierce County). We hope there will be many celebrations of SCARE HUNGER in the future.
